George Russell urges calm amid Kimi Antonelli’s competition in Miami

As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, George Russell, driver for Mercedes, has received advice to remain calm, even though his Italian teammate, Kimi Antonelli, is ahead by nine points in the standings. After the first three races of the season, Antonelli has proven to be a serious competitor.

Russell started the season strong, winning the Australian Grand Prix and a sprint race in China. However, some incidents during qualifying in China and a poorly timed ‘safety car’ during the Japanese Grand Prix allowed Antonelli to gain valuable points.

In light of these circumstances, James Hinchcliffe, former IndyCar driver and current F1 TV presenter, has advised Russell not to get anxious if Antonelli succeeds again in Miami. “We are still in the fourth round. There is plenty of competition ahead,” Hinchcliffe said, noting that a deficit of nine points is not an immediate concern.

Hinchcliffe pointed out how, in past seasons, there have been similar situations, referring to the previous championship where Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris had a significantly larger gap at mid-season. The advice for Russell is to stay calm and focused on his abilities.

With the Grand Prix just days away, Russell’s focus should be to prevent Antonelli from gaining too much confidence if he manages to win in Miami. The key will be how he responds to the difficulties and challenges that may arise over the weekend.
