Pierre Gasly says AlphaTauri needs to do better amid a slump in F1 2022 and it doesn’t means he wants to leave.
It has been a difficult run for AlphaTauri in the last few races which has put them firmly behind in the standings in seventh with 17 points to sixth placed Alpine’s 40. Interestingly, Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of Gasly in the championship by five points.
Gasly has been unlucky in certain races which was the same in Monaco where he lost out in qualifying itself. A red flag caused by his own teammate Tsunoda ruined his fast lap and a minor decision cost him time and he was unable to get out of Q1 in the end.
He ended up 11th after a tricky race and hasn’t scored since Australia. Gasly is certainly upset with the situation and wants the team to do better, while explaining what went wrong in Monaco. “It was too close,” he said. “There were many cars ahead of us. Yuki was ahead of me, behind another car, and Yuki passed for one second and I tried to go as close as I could without being right on his gearbox, and we missed it.
“There are a lot of things we need to review. I think the conclusion is we’re not doing a good enough job at the moment. We have a car to finish and qualify P5, P6, I just don’t understand how we end up in this position. We just need to do a better job. I’m so disappointed.
“I put myself in the team, when we don’t do a good job, it’s not going to point them out, it’s just overall as a team, they try to do their best, I’m giving them my best. But at the moment, these things should not happen, and we need to do better,” summed up Gasly, who was then asked if this will lead to him change teams.
Gasly put that thought down but wants the team to do better ahead. “No, it doesn’t mean anything,” he said. “It just means I want us to perform. I’m doing my best fo rut to perform, but at the moment we can question some of the decisions or choices we are doing, but I hope we can sort this out in the coming races.”
