Gasly stays on with Alpine in new multi-year F1 deal

Pierre Gasly, Alpine, F1

Pierre Gasly (FRA) Alpine F1 Team. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 10, Spanish Grand Prix, Friday 21st June 2024. Barcelona, Spain.

Pierre Gasly has decided to stick with Alpine and the Renault Group after signing a new multi-year deal starting from 2025 F1 season.

Having joined the Renault family in 2023 F1 season after years spent at Toro Rosso/AlphaTauri, Gasly continued his punching above weight performances at Alpine. He not only had a sprint podium, but also secured a main race podium in his first season.

But it all went downhill this year after Alpine couldn’t live up to the expectations. It is at its recovering phase but it is rather slow and marred by people leaving. Still, the team has secured points finishes in multiple races to leapfrog Haas in the standings for now.

With the arrival of David Sanchez and Flavia Briatore, Alpine hopes for an upswing. While there will be a departure in the form of Esteban Ocon, but Gasly has inked a new multi-year deal to remain with the French F1 team for at least the next couple of seasons.

Gasly had been tight-lipped about his future which has now been confirmed despite open seats elsewhere. There are speculation about Alpine dumping its engine programme and taking the customer route, but so far they have denied any reports.

For now, Gasly will stay put while speculation about his teammate continues on with the likes of Jack Doohan in the frame and also Carlos Sainz now linked to it. “I feel very much at home at this great team,” said the Frenchman. “I enjoy being a real part of both the Formula 1 project and the wider Alpine Cars vision.

“I’ve been officially here for over 18 months and it has always been the plan to build a long-term project with the Team. While on-track it’s been a challenging season so far, I remain faithful to the project and I am not going anywhere.

“I am happy with the changes made, the hard work, and the direction the team is taking. There is a lot of potential in this team’s personnel and resources. I’m excited for what is to come in the future and right now I’m focusing on the everyday details that we are putting in to improve our performances.”

Meanwhile, team boss Famin added: “The extension of Pierre’s contract with the team is very pleasing. He is a driver with huge experience in Formula 1 and continues to show huge amounts of potential on-track. For Alpine as a brand, he is a great ambassador and we therefore look forward to continuing our collaboration.

“While this is important for our future, we do have to keep our eyes close to what is coming and that is focusing on improving our current package. We have high ambitions this current season and we will work tirelessly to achieve those things. We will take our time in deciding Pierre’s team-mate and we are excited with the options we have on the table.”
