Pierre Gasly rates a non-scoring result in Azerbaijan GP as his best from 2024 F1 season, with Brazil GP being the best moment out of all.
Out of all the points scoring finishes, Alpine’s Gasly has chosen a non-scoring Azerbaijan GP as his best grand prix of 2024 where he had to undertake qualifying laps to see to the end. He qualified 13th but was disqualified from the result due to technical breach.
He started from the back of the grid and made his into the fag end of the Top 10 step by step. He was in a no man’s land towards the end and finished just outside the Top 10 in 12th. He was running outside the Top 15 in the latter part and gained few places due to late incidents.
He knows that most will not recall the grand prix, but for him, it was a big one. “Baku, P15 (P12), absolutely no one noticed it and probably my best race of the year,” recalled Gasly when asked by media. “That’s Formula 1 and that’s what can be frustrating at times. I finished that race, I don’t think anyone could have done a better lap than I’ve done for 50 laps in a row there.
“I was pleased and I said, ‘f***, I’m going back home with absolutely zero points, 30 seconds from the top 10’. It’s pretty tough to find satisfaction in that. But at the end of the day, I was always trying to come with the same approach and get the best of what you have. At the end of the day, that race, three weeks later, got me a Q3 lap in Austin and got me some points in Austin, in Mexico.
“It’s just the unseen efforts that go into a season, but ultimately play a part when the car gets better. This was probably the most controversial performance, because I do believe it was my best race of the year and was one of the worst end results. My best moment of 2024? Brazil. As a team, it was just spectacular, unexpected, emotional and very well rewarded for all the efforts,” summed up Gasly.
