Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat are pretty much resigned to the fact that a Red Bull Racing seat in 2021 is not for taking as they put their mind on F1 2020 results.

In a way, it is a new journey for Red Bull’s sister F1 team with the ‘AlphaTauri’ brand as they move away from Toro Rosso. It is a brand new project, which not just focuses on developing juniors but also promote the clothing company as well.

The core team remains the same, though, with a relatively experienced line-up of Gasly and Kvyat. It is not clear if they will continue on in 2021 but both F1 drivers are pretty much certain that a Red Bull seat is not up for grabs next season.

In fact, Gasly admitted that Red Bull are more or less pinned on retaining Alexander Albon alongside Max Verstappen. The rumours of Sebastian Vettel joining has been shot down multiple times already, but it persists due to the blessings of the company’s owners.

Whether Albon and or Vettel, the core point remains that the chances of Gasly and Kvyat is less and they will have to do more to retain their AlphaTauri drives, which could be under threat from the likes of Juri Vips, Yuki Tsunoda and Jehan Daruvala.

The trio will need results, though, along with superlicense points. “I think the situation with Red Bull is quite clear,” said Gasly. “When you’re under contract with them, obviously you’re just looking at the top team and looking at the Red Bull team.

“I think at the moment, things are quite clear there with Alex and Max. I think both drivers are well supported, and on my side I’m just focusing on performing the best I can with the car I have. And we’ll see the opportunities that comes for the future, but at the moment in focusing on AlphaTauri.

“It’s also our first season together. I think there is something great to build with this team. And that’s my only focus right now,” summed up Gasly. The Frenchman returned to the fold last year after being replaced by Albon and chances of him returning there is unlikely.

Teammate Kvyat is on similar lines after the Russian returned to Red Bull fold after missing one year and joining Ferrari as its reserve and simulator driver. “I’ve been here last year, then now its AlphaTauri’s first season, it is great to be part of this project,” he said.

“I just go race by race now, and enjoy every moment with them. We try to, you know, work on the car as hard as we can together and then we will see in the future of course. Still nothing to report there [as to where I’ll be],” summed up Kvyat.
