Pierre Gasly says improvements in F1 is never consistent even if there is the desire to do so, as sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn’t.
With Alpine lagging behind a bit, they need a step up in time to come to challenge the teams ahead and break into the Top 3. But it isn’t easy as everyone is trying to do the same. And the updates doesn’t work always either.
This is what Gasly thinks too as he notes that improvements in F1 is never consistent. There could be one side where everything works out straight up and at the same time, things may not work out either but teams cannot give up on that.
“There is nothing consistent in Formula 1, so you can’t predict because even with the best will and desire to improve…improvement in Formula 1 is never really consistent because sometimes you don’t find any progress on the aero side in three months and then you put the finger in an area which unlocks massive potential, so I think it is more on the mentality side of it, where we put ourselves,” said Gasly.
“From what I am seeing inside of the team, we are really trying to improve everywhere. We are really aware on our weaknesses, we are aware on our potential, we know our strength, we know the areas where we got to be stronger and there are lot of processes that are put in place to tackle this weaknesses.
“We have the right spirit, I have no gaurantee that in 2024 we will have a car that will give me to get the position and the target that we set ourselves at the beginning of the year but all I can see right now is we are trying as hard we can to get there and from what…the process we put in place are right ones,” summed up Gasly.
When pressed on to state where is that Alpine needs to improve, Gasly added: “More downforce, more power and mechanical grip. You are talking about fine margins, I don’t think we are not miles behind. When you find like three tenths there, three tenths there, three tenths there, the difference to find three tenths seems quite small but to find it is quite the big task.
“It is in all areas that we need to try to raise our game but as I said, that’s what I have seen over the last six months, I really see like a nice progress in the way that we are operating and we got to keep that mindset going forward and hopefully the package that we put together in 2024 will be a more efficient package.”
