In the shadow of the upcoming Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington D.C., AJ Foyt Racing, Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), and the White House Historical Association (WHHA) have initiated a collaboration that merges motorsport, national history, and support for veterans. The event, scheduled for August 22 and 23, takes place at a symbolic moment, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The initiative arises from conversations between Stewart McLaurin, president of WHHA, and board member Nicole Sexton, in tribute to her mother, Marlyne Sexton, who was a sponsor of Foyt Racing. Larry Foyt, president of AJ Foyt Racing, has joined this cause to promote the championship.
McLaurin has highlighted the importance of this union: ‘As a non-partisan steward of the history of the White House, it is an honor to celebrate with Homes For Our Troops and AJ Foyt Racing the historic return of racing to the president’s neighborhood, a tradition that dates back more than two centuries with horse racing in the capital.’
During the race weekend, the car number 14 Homes For Our Troops, driven by Santino Ferrucci, will carry the logo of the White House Historical Association. Additionally, McLaurin, Foyt, and Ferrucci will appear in a special episode of the podcast _The White House 1600 Sessions_.
Public activities in Washington will focus on The People’s House: A White House Experience, an interactive educational space of the association. Starting August 17, visitors will be able to take photos with a replica of Ferrucci’s Indy car. Furthermore, there will be a signing session on August 20 between 4:30 PM and 5:30 PM at the replica of the Oval Office.
Exclusive merchandise from AJ Foyt Racing and WHHA will be available at the White House historical store, and the proceeds will go towards Homes For Our Troops and their educational programs.
