Franco Morbidelli reflects on his difficulties in MotoGP

Franco Morbidelli, rider of the VR46 Racing Team, has shared his frustration after yet another disappointing weekend at the Czech Grand Prix. After the race, he appeared perplexed about his current ability to ride a MotoGP motorcycle, hinting that he may have forgotten how to do it.

“I tried to give my best today,” declared Morbidelli, exhausted. “I had a better start than yesterday and I’ve worked to optimize performance every lap. I made very few mistakes and still finished P14.”

The Ducati rider expressed his frustration over the lack of performance and grip that has accompanied him throughout the season. “Since the beginning of the year, I’ve been having grip issues and it doesn’t seem to change,” he added. “I don’t know, maybe I’ve forgotten how to ride a MotoGP bike.”

Morbidelli’s performances this season have been well below his expectations, especially considering that in 2020 he finished second and won three races. Now, with his position in jeopardy, he acknowledged that the lack of performance on the track is the main issue. “In Barcelona, I was on the front row. At Mugello, I had an impressive pace on Friday and Saturday… until the race,” he lamented. “Maybe when the races come, I forget how to ride the MotoGP.”

When asked if the pressure from his lack of future options affected his performance, Morbidelli responded: “I know how to live with pressure, I’ve been racing since I was seven. I’m not afraid of staying home if I’m not good enough.”

With a more hopeful tone, Morbidelli concluded that both the team and he are determined not to give up. “Our team does not give up. We are ready to give it our all at every moment and, hopefully, we will get out of this situation,” he stated.
