Franco Colapinto has caught the attention of the motorsport world after demonstrating impressive reactions during the Australian Grand Prix, where he spectacularly avoided a crash with Liam Lawson. The incident took place right at the start of the race, when Lawson was unable to leave his pit properly, remaining stationary in P8.
Colapinto, who started the race from position 16, had to maneuver quickly to the right to dodge the New Zealander and thus avoid a potential accident with the wall. Lawson later explained that he had lost all power in his vehicle just before the impact.
After the race, Franco Colapinto commented: “At first, I almost had a serious accident with Liam, as he got stuck on the curb, and I felt very lucky to be able to pass around. I was very lucky in that first lap.”
The _Sky Sports F1_ analysts, Anthony Davidson and Jenson Button, reacted with admiration when analyzing the onboard footage of the Alpine driver. Davidson stated: “It’s as if he had the reactions of a cat. How is it possible he avoided the rear wheel and the wall? It’s really incredible. I could watch it a thousand times and it would still impress me.”
Button, for his part, added that it is surprising how Colapinto managed to slow down so effectively in such a critical situation. “From a driver’s point of view, it’s hard to explain how this happened. It was a really scary situation; let’s hope we don’t see a moment like this again,” he said.
