Nico Rosberg won the Russian Grand Prix, 4th win in the 4th race of the season. Lewis Hamilton finished 2nd after starting 10th. Kimi Räikkönen completed the podium.
A chaotic start left the race with 3 drivers out. Kvyat and Vettel found each other again at the start after their incident in China, but this time Kvyat hit Vettel‘s rear twice, which left the German driver out of the race. Gutiérrez hit Hülkenberg, who spun and crashed into Haryanto, leaving them both out of the race. Kvyat got a stop and go penalty and Gutiérrez was handed a drive through. Many drivers had to pit in lap 2, including both Red Bulls who chose the medium tyre to try to go until the end and Pérez, who got a puncture and changed to the soft compound.
Räikkönen was 2nd after the start, but he lost position again with Bottas after the Safety Car restart. Hamilton went up to 5th and then overtook Massa and Räikkönen. Verstappen, Alonso, Grosjean, Magnussen and Palmer completed the top 10.
Bottas decided to pit first in order to avoid an undercut from Hamilton and Räikkönen. He managed to stay ahead of Hamilton, but it only took Hamilton a couple of laps to overtake him. Räikkönen stayed out for a few more laps and came out of the pit lane ahead of Bottas.
After everybody had pitted, Rosberg led the race ahead of Hamilton, Räikkönen, Bottas, Massa, Pérez, Verstappen, Ericsson, Alonso and Ricciardo. Sainz was given a 10s penalty for forcing Palmer off-track.
Verstappen had an engine failure which left him out of the race on lap 33 when he was 6th. That brought Alonso up to 6th. Behind him, Magnussen, Grosjean, Pérez, Sainz and Button had a very close fight for P7.
Hamilton was unable to catch Rosberg, who ended his race with two fastest laps which led him to victory. Räikkönen completed the podium and saved the day for Ferrari. Bottas and Massa were 4th and 5th for Williams. Alonso and Magnussen got their first points of the season with a fantastic 6th and 7th. Grosjean, Pérez and Button completed the top 10.
