Fortescue Zero Racing has become the new owner of Team Penske’s operation, coinciding with the start of the Gen4 era of Formula E. This alliance will allow the new team to compete with Jaguar-powered vehicles during the 2026-27 season, which will begin in December.
This acquisition marks a new stage in electric motorsport, as Fortescue Zero will introduce two units to the grid, bringing the number of Jaguar-powered vehicles to six, which includes the engines of Jaguar TCS Racing and Envision teams.
Team Penske has been present since the first edition of Formula E in 2014, participating with various brand partnerships over the years, including the latest as DS Penske. However, the announcement of DS’s withdrawal at the end of the 2025-26 season had left the team’s future in limbo.
Gus Pichot, CEO of Fortescue, expressed his excitement for this new chapter in their motorsport history. ‘We are here to compete, win, and innovate. At Fortescue, we have a culture of pushing boundaries and presenting the great technological advancements beyond the world of racing,’ he stated.
It is still unknown who will fill the driver positions for the Fortescue team, after Maximilian Günther left DS Penske to join Envision. The continuity of the team’s other partner, Taylor Barnard, also remains unconfirmed.
Ian James, director of Jaguar, has positively assessed this new partnership, highlighting that Formula E is a key platform for the development of electric vehicle technologies. With the entry of Fortescue Zero Racing, Jaguar strengthens its presence and ambition to compete for titles and trophies in a constantly transforming championship.
