A year ago the incident

Just a year ago the pilot had told in an interview to remember all of the incident before the British GP. The Spanish had lost his right eye crashing to a fairly slow speed for a Formula One car (50-60 kmh) against the back of a truck and his team had been in the hospital a month before returning home. “I remember everything, even the moment of impact – said the Spanish magazine Hola, in his first interview – When I woke up they were all around me and did not even know what language to speak.”

“The incident has given me a new perspective on life, on the things that matter” -he said- “Now I have only one eye but perhaps perceive more things than before. I have to undergo another surgery as soon as possible, but the worst is now behind us. I have a headache I do not know how long it will last, maybe years. I need to check a lot of my efforts because of the cranial pressure. I also lost the sense of smell, and taste. Now I like things with a very strong taste.”

The Formula 1 circus, this weekend at Suzuka for the Japanese Grand Prix, said with dismay. “Tragic news of the death of Maria de Villota, our thoughts are with his family and his friends!” He wrote on Twitter while the Ferrari Fernando Alonso, his compatriot De Villota, said: “It is a sad news for all the motor sports, was a friend of all of us riders. You just have to pray for her and her family, who are near. I need a few minutes to reflect, I have now a lot of sadness.”

Maria De Vilota was to present next Monday his book “Life is a gift,” says the Spanish newspaper El Pais, adding that the test driver was married last July in Santander.
