This year, the Formula 2 category will make its debut in North America as a replacement for the canceled events in the Middle East. This decision comes in response to the cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia due to the war situation in the region.

With Formula 1 races suspended, Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3, which were to participate as support for the grand prix, have been affected. The in-season tests in Bahrain for both categories have also been canceled without replacement.

However, Formula 2 has been able to recover the lost events, with two new dates, including the Miami Grand Prix (from May 1 to 3) and the Canadian Grand Prix (from May 22 to 24). The Miami event will mark the first time that this category will be held in North America, after the closest prior competition was an unofficial test in Curacao in 1985.

In the past, Canada had already hosted Formula 2 during the years 1993 and 1994, with the Moosehead Grand Prix in Halifax, which was part of the British championship.

Additionally, the Formula 1 Academy has announced the addition of a third race to its program at the Canadian Grand Prix in response to the loss of its round in Jeddah. It will also add another race in support of the United States Grand Prix (from October 23 to 25) at the Circuit of the Americas.

Bruno Michel, CEO of Formula 2, expressed his gratitude to Stefano Domenicali and the FIA for facilitating this change. According to Michel, “bringing Formula 2 to North America for the first time is a fantastic moment, with which we hope to ensure a return to competition as soon as possible. We are convinced that fans’ expectations will be exceeded by the quality of the races.”
