Ford drives the development of hypercars with the arrival of a former Acura driver

Ford is preparing a prominent entry into the world of hypercars with the incorporation of Tom Blomqvist, a driver with proven experience in Acura’s LMDh program. This maneuver aims to accelerate the development of its new competition car, which will be presented in 2027 at the World Endurance Championship.

Blomqvist, winner of two editions of the 24 Hours of Daytona, will join Ford after closing the chapter of Acura’s GTP program, which will be suspended at the end of this year. His experience with the ARX-06 and his collaboration with Oreca engineers are key assets for the American brand, which wants to avoid common mistakes in the early stages of vehicle development.

With the collaboration with Oreca, Ford hopes to leverage the enhancements that have been implemented in the LMDh platform since its introduction in 2023. Blomqvist emphasized that, knowing the structure of the car well, he will be able to contribute significantly to the initial optimization and configuration testing.

The new alliance will also include complete equipment and design from Ford, which aims to achieve one of its great dreams: to win the legendary Le Mans race for the first time since 1969. “We know the first year will be a challenge, but the goal is long-term,” Blomqvist stated.

In total, Ford will have a high-level driver lineup that includes Nick Yelloly, IMSA SportsCar champion, Logan Sargeant, former Formula 1 driver, and Mike Rockenfeller, Le Mans winner. All of them will bring experience and talent to an ambitious project that aims to mark a new era in endurance racing.
