M-Sport has unveiled a first glimpse of its new Rally2 car, which will be homologated to compete in the top category of the World Rally Championship (WRC) next year.
Recently, the FIA announced a new concept that will allow Rally2 manufacturers to homologate an improvement kit, costing 7,500 euros, to achieve “greater aerodynamic parity” between the Rally2 vehicles and the new WRC27 cars, which will represent the top category starting next season. Both types of vehicles will be built under differentiated technical regulations, but are expected to offer similar performance levels.
Details of the improvement
The kit will include new homologated front wings, a front bumper, and a rear aerodynamic device, as well as a 10 kg reduction from the vehicle’s current minimum weight. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the car will operate with a turbo restrictor of 33 mm.
Testing and collaborations
M-Sport is the first team to commit to developing a kit to improve its Ford Fiesta Rally2. This week, the team is conducting tarmac tests in Spain with its competition car for 2027.
Images and videos of the tests have circulated online, showing a white Fiesta Rally2 with visible changes to the front bumper and rear wing. Former WRC driver Matthew Wilson has been behind the wheel during the tests on Tuesday.
Future plans
M-Sport intends to run three Rally2 cars with the new kit during the 15-event calendar that will start next year. Recently, the team announced a new collaboration with Ford, which will officially begin in 2028, although the blue oval brand will increase its support for M-Sport starting next year.
Currently, M-Sport has not confirmed its driver lineup for 2027. Team director Richard Millener has indicated that no decisions have yet been made regarding the drivers, emphasizing that the selection is based on talent and development capability.
“The goal is to win in 2029 with the new car. We have two years to position ourselves well and we’re looking for drivers who fit our structure and help build the team,” Millener said.
