Sam Bird wins his first victory of the season at the race one in New York. He is ahead of both Techeetah by Jean-Eric Vergne and Stéphane Sarrazin. The French drivers made an extraordinary race placing five drivers in the Top 10. For his first race, Pierre Gasly finished 7th.

With a right-handed pin, the right-hand line is more advanced, allowing Daniel Abt to take the lead over Alex Lynn. Several contacts are to be reported in very tight pins, without any damage to the cars. However, Mitch Evans broke his right front wheel and must change his car in the first round. In a contact, Nicolas Prost activated without expressly doing the Full Course Yellow. In slow motion, he was overtaken by all the platoon. Stéphane Sarrazin won 3 places in the first two rounds.

Jérôme d’Ambrosio is not very fast since in three rounds he was overtaken by Sarrazin, Piquet and Di Grassi. The Belgian damaged his car after contact with Piquet. The front wing is destroyed on the left side. Felix Rosenqvist made a very good start, leaving 17th and 11th after 6 laps.

Alex Lynn mismanages the battery

The three drivers who benefit from the Fan Boost on the second car are Daniel Abt, Lucas di Grassi and Jean-Eric Vergne. At the same time, despite his broken car, Jérôme d’Ambrosio managed to sign the best lap in the race. He even came back to the pits to change his car. Mitch Evans also came out of the pits to try to make the best lap in the race. At the front of the race, Nick Heidfeld passed Jean-Eric Vergne in the start line of the 10th lap while Daniel Abt blocked Sam Bird and Alex Lynn, followed by Heidfeld and Vergne.

On lap 16, before the double chicane, Nick Heidfeld takes advantage of a small open door left by Alex Lynn to infiltrate to third place. Jean-Eric Vergne does the same in the first pin. The British is in trouble because he spends too much battery. The same problem reached Sam Bird who had surpassed Daniel Abt. In the chicane, on the 19th round, Jean-Eric Vergne took the lead on Nick Heidfeld and took third place in the race.

On the 21st lap, Vergne took over Daniel Abt. It was also the moment when Alex Lynn, 6th, changed his car, he had been overtaken by Stéphane Sarrazin and was pursued by Lucas di Grassi. Sam Bird, Jean-Eric Vergne return to the pits on lap 22. Only Daniel Abt, Nick Heidfeld, Lucas di Grassi, Pierre Gasly and Robin Frijns stayed on the track to stop on lap 23.

Heidfeld, big loser of the pit stop

The positions changed after the break, with Sam Bird leading in front of Vergne for 2.2 seconds followed by Daniel Abt in 5 seconds and then Stéphane Sarrazin, Alex Lynn, Felix Rosenqvist, Lucas Di Grassi and Nick Heidfeld, big loser of this pit stop . On lap 24, Alex Lynn must give up because of a transmission problem.

Lucas di Grassi shoots to try and overtake Felix Rosenqvist. On the 32nd round, Adam Carroll opens the door and loses his tenth place. He gets hit by Tom Dillmann and Pierre Gasly, who is at the door of the points. In the 34th round, Di Grassi wanted to be very pressing on the Swede who spins in the chicane. The Swede lost his rear wing, wanted to continue in spite of the wing which rubs on the ground in spite of the black flag and orange which obliges him to return to the pits. That gets back into the points Pierre Gasly who finds himself 9th after passing Dillmann.

On lap 37, Nick Heidfeld stopped on the left side of the track. The German lost a nut to the right rear. He must stop his car in the middle of the track. This is good for Nicolas Prost who finds himself in the points. Nice lift for the Renault e.Dams. Two laps later, the organization released the Safety Car, good news for Jean-Eric Vergne who can get closer to Sam Bird. He still has not used the fan boost. Nick Heidfeld takes the matter in hand and pushes his car himself, seeing that nobody is bringing his car back to the pits.

The safety car returns to the end of the 41st lap. There will be two laps under the green flag and a single lap for Vergne to use his fan boost. Sam Bird made a great raise, Vergne will have a hard time passing him in the final. Daniel Abt is down in the final lap. This gives Stéphane Sarrazin the edge of the podium. Lucas di Grassi passes 4th. On arrival, Sam Bird retained his lead and won the New York ePrix in front of Jean-Eric Vergne and Stéphane Sarrazin. There are 5 French drivers in the Top 10, only Tom Dillmann was able to keep the points in the last lap. In the championship, Lucas di Grassi takes advantage of the absence of Sébastien Buemi to get closer to 20 pts of Switzerland.
