SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS | Joel Eriksson took last victory this weekend in FIA Formula 3 Europe. Hubert was second and Russell, who failed at maintaining the position at the start, closes the podium in a masterly ascension through the grid.
Dry race today after sun was shining the whole morning in Spa-Francorchamps and new tyres for all drivers in third and last race this weekend for FIA Formula 3 European Championship.
George Russell (HitechGP), who was starting from pole, failed at the start and dropped to seventh position when arriving to La Source, with Eriksson (Motopark), taking the lead and having the track clear to go for the win. Barnicoat (HitechGP) also took profit from his teammate mistake, but later he got a puncture in a touch with Ilott (Van Amersfoort Racing) at the start, ending both out of points.
Stroll (Prema Powerteam) did such a good start and was to climb until fourth position as with any incident, race continued with an overtaking party. Russell has first to go for the comeback, and so he started from the start by passing Cassidy (Prema Powerteam).
Behind, Mazepin (HitechGP) was losing positions and Kari (Motopark) passed him, being able to climb to seventh position. In front, Stroll (Prema Powerteam) was getting closer to second in classification Anthoine Hubert (Van Amersfoort Racing), but when was trying first movements Russell got to there, so he had to focus on defending a position he would finally lose in a poleman’s master move that would allow him into the podium.
With this victory Joel Eriksson earns a victory in Formula 3, first also for Motopark and closes his bad times after good results at season start.
