First pole for Márquez in Barcelona

Marc Márquez will be on pole for the Moto GP Catalan GP at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, where he had never been the fastest rider on qualifying before.

Aleix Espargaró (Team Suzuki Ecstar), Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Yonny Hernandez (Aspar Team MotoGP) were expected to fight for Q2, but it wasn’t easy. Hèctor Barberà (Avinitia Racing) set the early pace, followed by Dovizioso and Espargaró, who was 2nd halfway through the session. However, he would end up out of Q2, while Barberà and Dovizioso improved their lap times.

The Hondas started Q2 on top with Márquez ahead, although he was very close to crashing into Berberà at the RACC chicane. Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) went up to 2nd between the Hondas, while Viñales (Team Suzuki Ecstar) was 4th ahead of Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP), but the Italian would steal the position from the Spaniard. Barberà climbed up to 4th ahead of Rossi and Viñales in the last few minutes, but nobody managed to beat Márquez’s time of 1:43.589.
