Valtteri Bottas dominated the race in Russia and got the first F1 victory of his career. Sebastian Vettel was 2nd after trying to pass him until the last lap. Kimi Räikkönen completed the podium.
Alonso couldn’t even start the race due to a mechanical failure. Bottas had a fantastic start where he overtook both Ferraris. Verstappen went from P7 to P5, while Ricciardo lost position with him and Massa. Grosjean and Palmer crashed in turn 1 and the Safety Car was deployed. After the restart, Ricciardo had to retire due to a brake failure.
From then on, there were no overtakes on track. Sainz and Stroll managed to get ahead of Kvyat and Magnussen after their pit stop. Massa was 6th throughout all the race, but he had a puncture and had to pit to finish P9.
Vettel tried to catch Bottas at the end with fresher tyres, but the Finn controlled the race and got his first F1 win. Räikkönen was 3rd ahead of Hamilton, who ended 36s behind his teammate after not finding the pace during the whole weekend. Verstappen finished in a lonely P5 with both Force Indias in the points again. Hülkenberg brought his Renault to P8 ahead of Massa and Sainz.
