Firm win for Hamilton at the Hungaroring

Lewis Hamilton dominated the Hungarian Grand Prix after stealing the lead of the race at the start. Nico Rosberg finished 2nd for another one-two for Mercedes, while Ricciardo completed the podium for Red Bull.

Ricciardo had a great start and passed both Mercedes in the first corners, although Hamilton got a better braking point and took the lead of the race. Rosberg‘s start wasn’t great either, but he managed to get ahead of Ricciardo. Verstappen, Vettel, Alonso, Sainz, Button, Bottas and Hülkenberg completed the top 10. Button had issues with his brake pedal and fell down to last. He was given a drive through penalty and he’d retire later on.

Vettel did an undercut to Verstappen, who got stuck behind Räikkönen, who was on a different strategy. After everybody had pitted, Hamilton was leading the race with less than 2s margin with Rosberg. Ricciardo was 3rd ahead of Vettel and Verstappen, who lost a lot of time with Räikkönen. The Finn came out 7th behind Alonso, but he passed the Spaniard in the following lap. Sainz, Bottas and Pérez completed the top 10. All of them were using the soft compound except for Räikkönen, with the supersoft, and Pérez, with the medium.

Ricciardo pitted for another set of softs in order to try an undercut on the Mercedes, but they increased their pace and it was impossible for the Aussie to overtake them. Rosberg was incapable of getting close enough to his teammate to try to overtake him, so Hamilton won the Hungarian GP ahead of Rosberg. Ricciardo held off Vettel half a second behind in the last few laps and secured a podium for Red Bull. Verstappen did the same with Räikkönen, although they even made contact which broke the Finn’s front wing. Alonso, Sainz, Bottas and Hülkenberg completed the top 10.
