The FIA has shared track limits details for F1 Mexico GP along with circuit changes plus the DRS zones, stewards and more.

As conveyed during the F1 US GP weekend, Neils Wittich will remain as the FIA Race Director for the rest of the 2022 season which started last weekend and is same in Mexico. In terms of track limits for Mexico GP, there are couple of notes.

Apart from the white line being the one defining the track edge, re-joining at Turn 11 must be done in the manner asked by the FIA Race Director while a similar request is regarding overshooting Turn 4 where a small road is available for safe re-joining.

Here’s what has been said:

  • In accordance with the provisions of Article 33.3, the white lines define the track edges. During Qualifying and the Race, each time a driver fails to negotiate with the track limits, this will result in that lap time being invalidated by the Stewards.
  • Any driver whose car passes completely behind the red and white kerb at the apex of Turn 11 must re-join the track by keeping to the right of the first polystyrene block arrangement and then wholly to the left of the second polystyrene block parallel to the on the exit of the corner.
  • If a driver overshoots the corner at Turn 4, there is a small road to the left of the asphalt run-off area which leads back on to the track prior Turn 6. Please ensure that your drivers use this when necessary.

Moving on to the DRS zones, the first one’s detection zone is 70m after Turn 9 with the activation being 80m after Turn 11. The second one’s detection is at the exit of Turn 15 and activation being 165m after Turn 17 and the third’s activation is 115m after Turn 3.

In terms of the circuit changes, the FIA Race Director notes of re-aligning between Turn 1 and Turn 2, with new kerbs installed at first corners and wall on the right-hand side of Turn 12 being extended too. Here are they:

  • Between Turn 1 and Turn 2 the wall have been realigned parallel to the track.
  • New kerbs between Turn 1 and Turn 4.
  • The wall on RHS at Turn 12 has been extended by 3 m.

As for the four FIA stewards, the panel will be led by Tim Mayer and ably supported by Silvia Bellot, Vitantonio Liuzzi and Freddy van Beuren. Additionally, F1 has provided details around the second Pirelli tyre testing for 2023 after confusion in USA.
