FIA shares Spanish GP circuit changes, DRS zones & more

The FIA has shared the track limits for F1 Spanish GP along with changes to circuit, DRS zones, stewards names and more.

With the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona reverting to an old layout by removing the chicane at Turn 14, the FIA Race Directors’ note detailed the other things ahead of the F1 Spanish GP. First up is the track limits description by Niels Wittich.

The white remains the calling point but additionally, the FIA has clarified about the rejoining situation between Turn 1 and Turn 3. “Any driver going with 4 wheels to the left of the LHS track limit white line at Turn 1 and Turn 2, may only rejoin the track at Turn 3 if the car passes to the LHS of the two bollards at the entry of Turn 3,” it said.

Failing to do this is likely lap deletion and or penalties. In terms of the circuit changes apart from the removal of Turn 13 chicane, the FIA has noted several at various places:

Moving on to the DRS zones, the first one’s detection point is at 86m before Turn 9 and its activation being 40m after Turn 9. At the same time, the second zone’s detection is at Safety Car Line 1 and activation is at 57m after Turn 14.

The FIA stewards panel will be led by Garry Connelly with Felix Holter, Derek Warwick and David Domingo also part of it. The Spanish GP weekend will also see drives trial the new specification of tyres from Pirelli in FP1 and FP2.
