The FIA has shared details of track limits, circuit changes, DRS zone, stewards names and more for this weekend’s Monaco GP.
The twisty street circuit of F1 Monaco GP has its walls and close barriers as the track limits deterrent, but the FIA Race Director has noted about the escape road at Turn 10-11 in his pre-race note reminding drivers and teams about certain rules.
“If a car uses the escape road at Turn 10-11 (Chicane), the driver may re-join the track only when the lights, operated the marshal on the spot, are turned to green,” said the note, keeping safety in mind of rejoin at a part of circuit which is tricky.
As with less track limits, the Monaco GP circuit has the sole DRS zone too, whose detection zone is at 80m after Turn 16 and activation is 18m after Turn 19. At the same time, the FIA stewards panel will be led by Nish Shetty for F1 Monaco GP.
He will have support from Matthew Selley, Derek Warwick and Jean Francois Calmes. There ware host of changes made to the circuit too, especially related to resurfacing. Here’s a list of them –
- Resurfacing between exit Turn 4 until entry Turn 6.
- Resurfacing between exit Turn 6 until entry Turn 10.
- Resurfacing between exit Turn. 19 until exit Turn 1.
- FIA fence upgraded with 45 degrees angled upper part between Turn 13 and Turn 15 on LHS.
Owing to the time crunch and an unique situation in Monaco GP, the FIA Race Director noted about couple of special rules for the weekend related to curfew and work of Pirelli engineers present at the garages of all the 10 F1 teams.
Curfew –
Due to the unique logistical challenges presented by the Monaco GP the following concessions will be made: On the Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, for this event only, the curfew period will be reduced by a period of three (3) hours for a maximum of six (6) operational personnel for the sole purpose of tyre preparations post tyre fitting from the tyre supplier.
Pirelli Trackside Operations regarding personnel (Engineering/Fitting) for Monaco –
To limit the number of personnel for Monaco, the following procedure is implemented:
- Only the Pirelli engineer will be present in the pit lane and garage for all practice sessions and qualifying.
- All wear checking and tyre photography shall take place after the session at the Pirelli fitting area. Each Competitor is responsible for delivery of the used sets to Pirelli in the usual way to wear checking/stripping.
- For the race, each Competitor should have space to allow the usual wear checking during the race after the pit stop. A space should be provided in the garage or behind in the teams own area where Pirelli personnel can work.
Teams are kindly reminded that their maximum collaboration is expected to deliver free practice tyres to the Pirelli fitting area in a timely manner.
