The FIA noted the small changes made to Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for this weekend’s F1 Mexico GP as it adds a third DRS zone.
This weekend’s F1 Mexico GP has little to no changes on track with the FIA noting only ‘routine maintenance’ undertaken which is not of a huge significance. There is, however, an addition on the DRS front, with a third one added to the existing two.
As per the FIA’s note, the first zone’s detection point is 70m after Turn 9 and an activation point 80m after Turn 11. The remaining two zones will share the detection point, which is located at the exit of Turn 15.
The activation point for Zone 2 is 323m after Turn 17 and the same for Zone 3 – the new one – is 116m after Turn 3. Meanwhile, the FIA also released the names of the four stewards for the Mexico GP as Dr. Gerd Ennser continues on for another race.
He officiated in Singapore and Japan as well. He will be joined by Silvia Bellot, driver representative Danny Sullivan and national steward Freddy Van Beuren. The Mexico GP will be the first chance for Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to secure the sixth title.
Should he win the grand prix with fastest lap, teammate Valtteri Bottas will need to finish third or higher to be able to extend the fight onto US GP. Considering’s Mercedes’ disadvantage in Mexico, it doesn’t seem likely that it will be decided just yet.
