The FIA has handed a suspended fine to Charles Leclerc as well after he was found to be swearing during F1 Mexico GP post-race press conference.
After Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was handed community service for swearing in a FIA press conference in Singapore, the stewards have handled slightly differently with Ferrari’s Leclerc after his swear during the official post-race press conference in F1 Mexico GP.
He was asked to describe his feelings when he had a moment in the final corner to save the car in Mexico. And he uttered ‘oh f**k’ in his answer. Although, he quickly recognised his mistake, the deed was done as he was pulled up by the FIA immediately after the session.
They took their time to summon Leclerc on Friday of F1 Brazil GP weekend and the hearing took place after the sprint qualifying. The Monegasque accepted his mistake and lack of judgement, while expressing regret of using the swear word.
The stewards felt Leclerc was apologetic immediately as noted above and so, they handed a suspended fine. They also clarified that the breach did not reach the level of similar offence in recent times – hinting towards Verstappen’s case.
It is likely that since the Dutchman was not immediately apologetic, his case was taken differently. Leclerc was fined for 10,000 euros of which 5,000 euros is suspended on the condition that he doesn’t commit the same offence in the next 12 months.
