The FIA has fined Honda and Alpine for procedural infringement with regards to the F1 Power Unit Cost Cap breach for 2023.

In its first year of the Power Unit Financial Regulation, the FIA has found infringement on the side of two manufacturers i.e Alpine Racing SAS and Honda Racing Corporation. The former runs its own team, while the latter provides to Red Bull and Visa Cash App RB.

The breach was found in the reporting made by the manufacturers for the financial year 2023. The FIA acknowledges co-operation from both Alpine and Honda in the process, and found that they obtained no undue advantage as a result of the breach.

The ABA with Honda was completed on October 7 of 2024, while Alpine did so on October 11. The FIA noted the procedural breaches that they found with both the power unit manufacturers. The fine for the former was USD 600,000 and latter’s was USD 400,000.

In the case of Honda, it was –

  • costs pursuant to Article 3.1(p)(i) of the Power Unit Financial Regulations (concerning costs in respect of dyno maintenance); and
  • understatement of Relevant Costs in respect of the provisions set forth by Article 4.1(f) of the Power Unit Financial Regulations (concerning costs of Inventories).

And with Alpine –

  • the assessment report submitted by Alpine to Cost Cap Administration on 2 April 2024, as required pursuant to Article 5.1(d) as part of its Reporting Documentation in respect of the 2023 Reporting Period, contained significant deficiencies. Several required procedures had not been performed at all, and several other procedures had only been partially completed.
  • an updated assessment report dated 6 May 2024 was submitted by Alpine to the Cost Cap Administration on 7 May 2024. The Cost Cap Administration has reviewed the updated assessment report and has concluded that it addresses all of the deficiencies previously identified.

Honda’s punishment –

  • HRC must pay a Financial Penalty of USD 600,000 to the FIA within 30 days of the date of execution of the ABA (Article 9.5 of the Power Unit Financial Regulations); and
  • HRC bears the costs incurred by the Cost Cap Administration in connection with the
    preparation of the ABA.

Alpine’s punishment –

  • Alpine must pay a Financial Penalty of USD 400,000 to the FIA within 30 days of the date of execution of the ABA (Article 9.5 of the Power Unit Financial Regulations); and
  • Alpine bears the costs incurred by the Cost Cap Administration in connection with the preparation of the ABA.
