FIA finds breach for Alpine, Honda in 2023 Cost Cap review

The FIA has cleared all the 10 F1 teams of any breaches related to Cost Cap for Financial Regulations, but while clearing four power unit manufacturers’ for PU Regulations, it has found couple of procedural breaches.

Unlike the previous time when the FIA found larger breaches from Red Bull, Aston Martin and Williams, this time the Compliance Review team has found nothing against any of the 10 F1 teams in their Cost Cap filing for 2023 Financial Regulations.

It is the third year of implementation of Cost Cap and slowly the F1 teams have started to understand the nuances of the regulation in order to safeguard itself from any breach. The process took about five months and everyone co-operated in good faith.

In the first year of implementation of the Cost Cap for Power Unit Manufacturers’, the FIA cleared all four – namely Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes and Alpine/Renault – in their review. But they pinned Alpine and Honda for procedural breaches in the process.

The FIA, however, has clarified that neither of them exceeded the spending limit. And that they are fully complying to rectify the procedural breach – the nature and extent of which will be noted when the Accepted Breach Agreement is published.

Here’s what the FIA said –

The FIA confirms that its Cost Cap Administration (CCA) has now completed its review of the Reporting Documentation in respect of the Reporting Period that ended on 31 December 2023, submitted by each F1 Team that participated in the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship and by each Power Unit (PU) Manufacturer registered to supply the new generation of PU that will be introduced from 2026.

2023 is the third year of implementation of the Financial Regulations for F1 Teams and the first year of implementation of the Financial Regulations for PU Manufacturers. The review of the Reporting Documentation was a thorough and intensive process spanning five months with all F1 Teams and all PU Manufacturers giving their full support in providing the required information. The CCA notes that all F1 Teams and all PU Manufacturers acted at all times in a spirit of good faith and co-operation throughout the process.
