The support category of Formula 1, FIA Formula 2, has revealed its calendar for the 2027 season, which includes a new race in the Americas during the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix. This inclusion commemorates a stay in the area before the final in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
Bruno Michel, CEO of FIA Formula 2 and FIA Formula 3, made the announcement in Mexico: “The incorporation of Mexico City into our 2027 calendar will bring the category closer to new audiences and strengthen its position as a global platform for the next generation of Formula 1 talent. I want to especially thank Rafael Villagómez Sr. for making this possible. I am looking forward to Mexican fans enjoying our races at this great circuit!”
The FIA F2 calendar for 2027 consists of 14 races, starting in Bahrain and finishing in Abu Dhabi, thus following tradition. The race in Mexico will be the category’s first visit to Latin America, after two races in North America in 2026, in Miami and Canada, which replaced the opening tests in the Eastern Half. Canada remains on the calendar after the success of the 2026 edition.
In addition, Istanbul Park is also added to the calendar, marking the return of this circuit to Formula 1.
New car for 2027
The category will introduce a new car in 2027, which was unveiled a month ago. This vehicle will maintain the conceptual basis of the current generation to prioritize cost control for the different teams, while incorporating specific improvements in aerodynamics, usability, and on-track performance.
The car will again be manufactured by Dallara and will be equipped with a 3.4-liter Mecachrome V6 turbo engine, capable of producing 620 hp at 8,750 rpm and 570 Nm of torque, fueled with 100% sustainable fuel from Aramco. In the exterior design, redesigned front and rear wings will be implemented under the aesthetic influence of modern Formula 1 cars, optimizing airflow to facilitate overtaking and following cars at high speeds.
