Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton together with Pierre Gasly have been disqualified from F1 Chinese GP after failing to adhere the FIA Technical Regulation.
Post-race, the FIA summoned Ferrari’s Leclerc and Hamilton for different technical regulation breaches, while Alpine’s Gasly was summoned too. For Leclerc and Gasly, their cars were found underweight in the post-race technical checks – despite the former’s car being checked for using a spare front wing.
The physical checks found that Leclerc’s car was underweight by 1 kilogram as did Gasly’s. On the other hand, Hamilton was summoned for rearward skid block. The Brit’s measurement was 8.6 mm (LHS), 8.6 mm (car centerline) and 8.5 mm (RHS), which was below the 9 mm minimum thickness required.
With no way out from such summons, the FIA disqualified both Leclerc and Gasly for being underweight. At the hearing, there was no challenge from either teams regarding the results found by the technical delegate and both accepted their fate of disqualification from the grand prix.
It was same fate for Hamilton with regards to the plank assembly. The team accepted the genuine error from their end. As a result of three disqualifications, both the Ferrari drivers have lost their points places, while Gasly missed out on the chance to score by finishing 11th in the grand prix.
This is helped Haas’ Esteban Ocon to finish fifth from Mercedes’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli in sixth, Williams’ Alexander Albon seventh and Haas’ Oliver Bearman in eighth. With Gasly out of the way, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll is ninth in the points along with Williams’ Carlos Sainz in 10th.
Visa Cash App RB’s Isack Hadjar moved up to 11th, Red Bull’s Liam Lawson to 12th, Alpine’s Jack Doohan is 13th, Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto 14th & Nico Hulkenberg 15th and Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda rounds out the runners in 16th.
