Halfway thought the break between the first meeting of the season in Barcelona and the second one in Austria, GP3 Series drivers met at Red Bull Ring for two days of collective tests. Charles Leclerc was the fastest of the day thanks to his time in the morning session, Antonio Fuoco went fastest in the afternoon session.
The day started under a bright sun and warm temperatures. Konstantin Tereshschenko was the first one to set a fast time ahead of Kevin Jörg and Jack Aitken. Then, Oscar Tunjo was the first one to get into 1’19 ahead of Ferrari young drivers Antonio Fuoco and Charles Leclerc, before the Colombian provoked the first red flag of the day.
Leclerc and Nyck De Vries beat Tunjo’s time in the second half of the session. In the last 15 minutes, ART Grand Prix quartet constantly beat the fastest time before Leclerc set a flying lap in 1:19.171, over half a second faster than De Vries in second position, Alexander Albon ended the session in third place.
During PM session, Matthew Parry was the first one to set a reference time ahead of Jake Hughes and Nirei Fukuzumi, the Japanese driver topping the times halfway through the session. The second red flag of the day was caused by Steijn Schothorst’s car stopped on track. When the session was green again, Leclerc was the first one to dip into the 1’19 laptime. Fuoco came to beat his fellow Ferrari mate for 0.09s with 45 minutes left on the clock ahead of some race simulations.
Apart from Tatiana Calderon and Oscar Tunjo stopping on track, the rest of the session happened quietly with Fuoco topping the times ahead of Leclerc and De Vries.
