Ferrari has won a court case in Italy against Enrico Cardile joining Aston Martin before completing the gardening leave as handed out by the Italian F1 team.
Last year Aston Martin announced the hiring of Cardile as chief technical officer from Ferrari but no joining date in 2025 was given. That is because a court case was ongoing in Italy regarding his start date, where the Italian manufacturer put up a stay order preventing him to start as soon.
As per the decision, Cardile cannot start with Aston Martin before July 18. Ferrari wants him to serve his gardening leave properly after they found out that he was violating his agreement by already helping out the Silverstone-based F1 outfit before the end of his gardening leave.
“With reference to the recent news regarding the timing of Enrico Cardile’s arrival at Aston Martin, Ferrari clarifies that a few weeks ago the Court of Modena, upholding the requests of the Company, ordered Enrico Cardile to immediately cease any form of collaboration with Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team until next July 18,” said a statement from Ferrari.
“In this urgent procedural phase, the Court of Modena found that our former employee was already violating the non-compete commitment with Ferrari, whose purpose was precisely to prevent other F1 teams from gaining an unjustified competitive advantage by hiring Cardile earlier than allowed, causing irreparable harm to Ferrari.”
While Aston Martin awaits the start of Cardile in his role, Adrian Newey has completed his gardening role post his work at Red Bull, to start his journey with the Silverstone-based F1 team. He officially started from March 3 onward and will be a key player to spearhead its 2026 programme.
