Ferrari gets new Australian GP-only F1 livery to celebrate 90 years

Ferrari, F1 2019

Scuderia Ferrari will run a special livery in the 2019 F1 season opener in Australian GP in Melbourne to celebrate its 90 years of existence.

With the chassis also named as SF90 to celebrate the 90 years of Ferrari, the Italian manufacturer will run a special livery as well to showcase its importance in the 2019 F1 season opener this weekend in Melbourne.

The one-off livery will feature ’90 years’ on the places where ‘Mission Winnow’ name and logo was presented when it revealed its 2019 machinery at Maranello in February. Another reason for the change is due to the on-going trouble with Mission Winnow branding.

Even last year when Ferrari used the new Mission Winnow branding as part of Philip Morris International’s new initiative, an investigation was already launched in Australia which highlighted the fact that PMI were smartly promoting tobacco in the name of an initiative.

A fresh investigation was launched as FormulaRapida.net wrote ahead of the 2019 F1 start. Not wanting to create undue controversy, Ferrari and PMI decided to drop Mission Winnow from their livery in Australia and put 90 years in place as part of their celebration.

It is expected that the Mission Winnow livery will return in Bahrain and stay on the car for the rest of the season. Ferrari released a statement regarding the new one-off livery with some added information on their other plans throughout the year:

“2019 is a special year for Scuderia Ferrari, as it was 90 years ago, in 1929, that the company was established by Enzo Ferrari and his associates. The name of this year’s car, the SF90, is already a celebration of this anniversary and, on top of that, the Maranello marque has decided to honour this achievement in an even more evident manner in Melbourne.

“Over the Australian Grand Prix weekend, the SF90 livery, the drivers’ race suits and some of the team’s track equipment will bear the logo celebrating 90 years of the Scuderia. In fact, the race in Melbourne represents the start of celebrations for this special anniversary, which will run throughout the Formula 1 season and also feature in the Prancing Horse company’s other racing activities.

“In May, the Ferrari Museum in Maranello will launch a special show dedicated to the anniversary, which will take visitors on a journey through the history of one of the most amazing institutions in the world of sport.”
