Sacha Fenestraz has taken a clear victory in the second race of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 in the Red Bull Ring. The Kaufmann driver has dominated lights-to-flag without opposition from Palmer – second. Gabriel Aubry completes the podium.
After getting the pole position yesterday and the championship lead, Sacha Fenestraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) has led the whole race to achieve his third victory of the season and be increase the gap in drivers’ championship with 8 races to go.
The second position has been taken by Will Palmer (R-ace GP) who finally gets on the podium after a difficult race. The Briton has taken advantage of the fight between Gabriel Aubry (Tech 1 Racing) and Max Defourny (R-ace GP) at the start, to overtake both drivers and secure the podium.
Aubry would eventually reach the podium after many complications. The Frenchman has had to constantly defend himself against his teammate – and best rookie of the race, Max Fewtrell (Tech 1 Racing).
Strong result by Dan Ticktum (Arden Motorsport) who has taken advantage of the opportunities that have come to him during the race to take fifth place. Opportunities like a mistake by Robert Shwartzman (R-ace GP) -ninth, or overtaking Defourny.
Again, Thomas Randle (AVF) has shown a great performance with sixth place finish thanks to the overtaking that has made to Alex Peroni (Fortec Motorsports) and Max Defourny who has finally finished eighth, being passed at the finish line by Yifei Ye (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Shwartzman and Henrique Chaves (AVF) complete the points zone.
After three consecutive weeks of races, Formula Renault now has to rest a month before the two races to be held in Le Castellet, France on 26 and 27 August.
