Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup championship leader Sacha Fenestraz will join Carlin for the next FIA Formula 3 European Championship round at the Nürburgring. The ever smiling 18-year-old, who is a four-time winner in FR2.0 Eurocup, will join Carlin’s existing four car line up at the infamous circuit in the Eifel mountains this week.
Currently leading the FR2.0 Eurocup standings, Fenestraz will take part in a one-off event in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship as he considers his options for the 2018 season. The Argentinian based Frenchman has enjoyed a strong season so far, taking 12 podiums to lead the standings with two rounds remaining.
Fenestraz was also a race winner in FR2.0 Eurocup and NEC championships, claiming the rookie vice-champion crown and fifth place overall in both in 2016 and previous to that vice champion in the 2015 French F4 Championship. He will race alongside his new Carlin team mates Lando Norris, Jehan Daruvala, Ferdinand Habsburg and Ameya Vaidyanathan in Germany.
The Nürburgring is Germany’s oldest circuit and sits within the famous Nordschleife, although the FIA F3 drivers will be racing on the shorter GP circuited inaugurated in 1984. Antonio Giovinazzi was previously a winner for Carlin back in 2014 and the team will be on the hunt for more trophies this weekend around the 3.6 km circuit.
Speaking about his debut in Formula 3, Fenestraz said, “This will be my first race weekend with the car so it will be a good learning experience for me. I’m happy to race with Carlin, we have seen how fast the team have been this year. I’m looking forward to it. It will be a good weekend to progress and learn about the car.”
Trevor Carlin added, “We’re delighted to have Sacha with the team in Germany this weekend. He is having a stunning season in FR2.0 Eurocup and while this weekend will be a big learning curve for him, he has nothing to prove. We will be happy if he feels as though he has made some progress and enjoyed the experience.”
Fenestraz had his first taste of F3 machinery at Silverstone last week. The French-Argentine driver will take to the track again on Friday 8th September and will contest the first of three races on Saturday.
