Deagen Fairclough managed to turn his second pole of the weekend into a resounding victory in the second race of GB3 held at Silverstone.
The Hitech GP driver withstood the pressure from Xcel Motorsport drivers Rowan Campbell-Pilling and Lucas Fluxa, achieving his fourth victory, marking his first double in a GB3 meeting.
At the start, as happened in Saturday’s opening race, Fairclough got a good start that allowed him to quickly take a clear lead. Campbell-Pilling maintained second place, while Fluxa lost third to Martin Molnar of Rodin Motorsport.
Molnar tried to overtake Campbell-Pilling on the first lap but was pushed out wide, allowing Fluxa to pass on the inside at Club and regain third position.
Patricio Gonzalez from Velocity Racing Development also tried to challenge Molnar, but he saw his teammate, Nikita Bedrin, the championship leader, pass him on the outside at Loop.
Fairclough finished the first lap with a 1.2-second advantage, which soon decreased thanks to Campbell-Pilling, who had Fluxa on his tail. The top three were able to distance themselves from Molnar. Campbell-Pilling resisted Fluxa’s pressure before starting to increase his lead, closing in on Fairclough.
Despite attempts to close the gap, Fairclough controlled the pace and ended the race with a 0.638-second advantage over Campbell-Pilling, while Fluxa completed the podium two seconds behind.
Molnar defended his fourth position against Bedrin and Maxim Rehm from Rodin, after Rehm passed his teammate Abbi Pulling on the first lap and also overtook Gonzalez at Village to place himself in sixth.
Leon Wilson from Arden finished eighth, ahead of Flynn Jackes from Elite Motorsport, while Pulling dropped to tenth. Jacob Micallef from Hitech ended up eleventh, and Edu Robinson, winner in Italian F4, finished twelfth in his second GB3 race with Elite.
