The Formula 2 competition has decided to expand its agenda for the upcoming meeting in Baku, introducing an additional feature race. This modification is announced just ten days before the start of the race weekend in Azerbaijan.

The decision, unusual and made with little lead time, generates anticipation, especially at a time when the end of the Formula 1 season appears uncertain. The races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi may not take place due to the complicated geopolitical situation in the Mediterranean region.

Organizers have confirmed that the weekend will include a double-header, with additional qualifying sessions and a new feature race added to the usual format. Bruno Michel, CEO of F2, emphasized that the Baku City Circuit offers a spectacular setting for racing, adding that the event will be exceptional with free practice, two qualifying sessions, a sprint, and two feature races.

The exact reason for the agenda expansion has not been specified, but it should be considered that it may be a way to prepare for possible cancellations or changes in subsequent events of the season, thus compensating for points that could be lost.

Despite this new addition, the last two events of the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi will maintain their usual format of free practice, qualifying, sprint race, and feature race. Final decisions on the F1 calendar will be made before the end of the month, with the inclusion of a relocated Bahrain Grand Prix in Sepang, Malaysia, scheduled for early October.
