F2: Daruvala leads Drugovich on Day 1 of Abu Dhabi test

Prema’s Jehan Daruvala was fastest on Day 1 of the FIA F2 test in Abu Dhabi from Felipe Drugovich and Jack Doohan.

While Daruvala is not yet confirmed to drive for Prema in FIA F2 championship for 2022 but the Indian did complete the first day with the Italian outfit by topping the standings with a 1m35.435s lap from MP Motorsport’s Drugovich (1m35.793s).

The two F2 veterans headed rookie Doohan (1m35.851s) in his UNI-Virtuosi Racing machine. ART’s Theo Pourchaire was fourth as he caused a red flag in the morning session, with Carlin’s Liam Lawson in fifth from Campos’ Ralph Boschung.

The Kiwi comes off from his F1 test along with Hitech GP’s Juri Vips, who was seventh. The Estonian caused a red flag in the F2 running after a small collision with Prema’s Dennis Hauger. Both managed to return in the afternoon session for more laps.

Carlin’s Logan Sargeant was eighth as DAMS’ Roy Nissany and Trident’s Calan Williams rounded out the Top 10 from Van Amersfoort Racing’s Jake Hughes. There were three other drivers to cause a red flag, all of them came in the morning session.

All of the F2 new comers were behind it with ART’s Frederick Vesti, VAR’s Amaury Cordeel, MP Motorsport’s Clement Novalak, which hampered their morning run. Juan Manuel Correa, meanwhile, made his return with Charouz, completing more than 70 laps.
