DAMS’ Sergio Sette Camara took pole in FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship feature race at Yas Marina ahead of Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s Callum Ilott.
It was Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s Callum Ilott (1m50.128s) with provisional pole from Carlin’s Louis Deletraz and DAMS’ Sergio Sette Camara in final F2 weekend at Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi under the flood lights.
It was an anti-climatic end to the F2 qualifying with Camara taking it eventually with a 1m49.751s lap from Ilott (1m49.840s), who had the pace to take pole but for the yellow flags due to a spin from Prema’s Sean Gelael in the final corner.
It punctured laps for many as Deletraz (1m49.931s) ended up third ahead of Carlin teammate Nobuharu Matsushita (1m50.157s), while UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Guanyu Zhou (1m50.190s) was fifth from the 2019 F2 champion de Vries (1m50.288s).
It is the second F2 pole of the 2019 season for Camara. Behind de Vries was DAMS’ Nicholas Latifi (1m50.303s) as Campos Racing’s Jack Aitken (1m50.520s) was eighth from ART Grand Prix’s Nikita Mazepin (1m50.618s).
The Russian set a late quick lap to sneak inside the Top 10 as Prema’s Mick Schumacher (1m50.652s) rounded out the Top 10 eventually with UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Luca Ghiotto missing out due to the yellow flags.
F2 newcomer Christian Lundgaard was 18th for Trident, while MP Motorsport’s Mahaveer Raghunathan did not come out for his final run as he has a penalty to start from the pitlane after he failed to adhere to red flag procedure in practice.
