F1 tweaks #WeRaceAsOne initiative ahead of 2021 season

F1, WeRaceAsOne

F1 has tweaked the #WeRaceAsOne strategy ahead of the 2021 season with the rainbow symbol dropped but core values remaining.

F1 has updated its plans with the #WeRaceAsOne initiative ahead of the 2021 season, which was created in June last year and was used throughout the 2020 season. The idea was to tackle social issues being faced within the sport and around the globe.

COVID-19 and inequality became the core trouble which F1 wanted to throw light on. They used #WeRaceAsOne symbol with a rainbow colour theme, but for 2021, the sport has decided to not carry on with the colours. They will, however, continue to use the hashtag.

The End Racism moment used before the race will continue on, but the teams and drivers will decide how they will take it forward. The #WeRaceAsOne campaign will switch to ESG strategy – which is Environment, Sustainability and Corporate Governance.

The ESG strategy will have pillars which will focus on sustainability, diversity & inclusion, and community. The current idea follows the F1 plans to achieve net-zero carbon by 2030 and it will combine with more inclusivity from the grassroot levels.

This year, Formula 1, the FIA, and the Teams will most notably focus on:

Speaking on the changes, Stefano Domenicali said: “Our WeRaceAsOne platform was very effective at raising the awareness of socially important issues and our steadfast commitment to make a positive change. We are very proud of it and the teams have embraced it fully. While our commitment through words to tackling issues like sustainability and diversity in our sport are important, it is our actions that we will be judged on.

“We have already made good progress on our sustainability plans and you will see strong actions being executed this year across all three of our WRAO pillars. We know we must continue to move forward on these issues and the whole sport is united in doing this in the months and years ahead.”
