The 10 F1 team bosses ranked their Top 10 drivers of 2020 as the FIA introduces 100 percent sustainable fuel for use in the sport.

F1 team bosses’ Top 10 of 2020:

The nine F1 team bosses Cyril Abiteboul, Christian Horner, Simon Roberts, Andreas Seidl, Guenther Steiner, Otmar Szafnauer, Franz Tost, Fred Vasseur and Toto Wolff, voted for their Top 10 drivers’ of 2020, in the annual season-ending rankings.

The votes were anonymous as drivers were handed points as per the F1 system, where the winner got 25 and 10th placed driver earned a single point. For the second successive year, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton bagged the top spot with 171 points against his name.

While teammate Valtteri Bottas was second in the real championship but in this Top 10, it was Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen with 156 points, as Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc rounded out the Top 3 with 132 – the only three drivers to have 100 plus points.

Despite the lack in the car, Leclerc showed his potential to be third, as Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo did his bit as well to be 95 after scoring two podiums. The new F1 grand prix winner Sergio Perez of Racing Point, ended up fifth with 82 points.

Even though he doesn’t have the car to show his real potential, Williams’ George Russell finished sixth with 75 points – a bit of a surprise, even taking into consideration the one-off Mercedes show. He beat McLaren’s Lando Norris (45) by a massive 30 points.

The Brit’s teammate Carlos Sainz was eighth with 37, whereas there was a tie for ninth and 10th with both Bottas and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly scoring 27 points each, where the Frenchman also registered his first-ever F1 grand prix victory. They did not reveal the rest of the list apart from the Top 10.

FIA sustainable fuel:

Following the FIA World Motor Sport Council online meeting, the governing body revealed about carbon neutrality from 2021 onward, in their goal to achieve net zero carbon status by 2030. The first step is having 100 percent sustainable fuel in F1.

Ever since the signing of the Paris Agreement, one of the biggest goal has been the research, development and production by the FIA’s Technical Department of a 100 % sustainable fuel, developed to stringent F1 specifications, able to power the current cars.

It is an exclusively refined fuel using bio-waste and is not intended for human or animal consumption. The first barrels has been handed over to F1’s Power Unit manufacturers – Mercedes, Honda, Renault and Ferrari – for testing and validation.

The objective now is to demonstrate that the technology works and as a result, to lead F1 suppliers to develop their own fuels, with the mandatory requirement of 100% sustainable fuels in F1 targeted by the introduction of the new powertrain architecture.

With the support of the world’s leading energy companies, we can combine the best technological and environmental performance.” At the same time, F1 chief Ross Brawn added: “Formula 1 has long served as platform for introducing next generation advancements in the automotive world.

“We are delighted by the momentum on sustainable fuels which perfectly aligns with our plan to be net zero carbon as a sport by 2030. Our top sustainability priority now is building a roadmap for the hybrid engine that reduces emissions and has a real world benefit for road cars. We believe we have the opportunity to do that with a next generation engine that combines hybrid technology with sustainable fuels.”
