F1 boss Stefano Domenicali meets with Thailand Prime Minister to discuss the possibility of a F1 grand prix in Bangkok in the future.

The reports about Thailand wanting to host a F1 grand prix have been on for sometime now. After the country’s success in staging the MotoGP race and even their 2025 launch event, they are gunning for more of such sporting events to add to their tourism portfolio.

The Australian GP weekend had visitors from Thailand to discuss about the possibilities as some of them were sported with Williams’ Alexander Albon. F1 has gone a step further by officially confirming of the discussions held between Domenicali and Thai’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.

The talks seem to be in the initial stages as several countries push for a F1 grand prix. Bangkok is a major tourist spot in South East Asia. The success of Singapore GP has played a role, which remains the only grand prix in the region after Malaysian GP was pulled up from the calendar.

The Vietnam GP never took off after COVID-19, leaving Singapore as the prime spot alongside China and Japan. It remains to be seen when Bangkok becomes a reality in the ever growing calendar. With 25 being marked as maximum, they can add it straight up but 24 seem to be the number they want.

For that to happen, Bangkok will have to replace one of the existing races. “I was delighted to meet with Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minster of Thailand, and her team today to discuss their impressive plans to host a race in Bangkok,” said Domenicali. “I am looking forward to continuing our discussions in the weeks and months ahead.”
