F1 drivers show exhaustion due to the new 2026 regulations

The Formula 1 drivers are experiencing a high level of mental exhaustion due to the new regulations introduced for the 2026 season. At the recent Japanese Grand Prix, F1 TV analyst Alex Brundle noted that all the drivers who attended his analysis looked visibly drained after the competition.

Brundle pointed out that, although competitiveness remains, the mental demands are much more intense than in previous editions. “I don’t know if this is being adequately reflected on screen, but every driver who comes up to us looks exhausted. They have worked very hard and it shows in their eyes,” he stated.

The 1997 champion, Jacques Villeneuve, who was also part of the post-race analysis, added that the exhaustion is not physical, but mental. “The cars are not faster than last year, but the concentration and energy required to compete are enormous,” he explained.

This new era of regulations has led to the introduction of more complex vehicles, which require more careful management, including the Overtake mode and energy recovery systems.

Current drivers, like Liam Lawson, have acknowledged feeling “mentally drained” after the race. Lawson commented that this year is very intense and that they need to think about many more elements while driving: “It has been quite a tough race,” he assured.
