F1 drivers will drive Lego minicars at the British GP

Formula 1 drivers will have the opportunity to pilot Lego minicars during the parade lap at the British Grand Prix this weekend. This innovative initiative comes after the success of the Lego parade at last year’s Miami GP.

All 22 drivers will use minicars made with 28,000 Lego pieces for the traditional parade lap at Silverstone before Sunday’s race. The minicars, designed by a team of 20 professionals, required over 6,400 hours of work to be finished at the Lego factory in the Czech Republic, and can reach a speed of 25 km/h.

With a total weight of 280 kg, each minicar features 65 kg of Lego pieces and standard go-kart wheels. Last year, during the parade in Miami, the drivers created a viral phenomenon when they situated themselves behind the wheel of the Lego cars, with one driver at the wheel while their teammate cheered from the passenger seat. The lap quickly turned into an informal competition.

This edition of the British GP promises to be just as memorable, with the parade lap scheduled for 90 minutes before the race starts, at 1:30 PM BST.

Emily Prazer, Commercial Director of Formula 1, expressed her excitement at repeating the Miami GP experience. “Last year, the F1 drivers’ parade with the Lego cars was one of the standout experiences of the season, capturing the imagination of fans around the world and showcasing a different side of our sport,” she stated.

Julia Goldin, Product and Marketing Director of the Lego Group, also added that the enthusiasm from both the drivers and fans last year was undeniable, and they want to exceed expectations with this new edition. “We can’t wait to see what the drivers will do with these minicars on the track,” she concluded.
