Just 72 hours after the historic announcement of the new Formula 1 grand prix in Africa, a fan has created a simulation of the proposed circuit in Rwanda within the video game Assetto Corsa. The video, which shows an inside-the-vehicle camera, has started circulating on social media, giving a first impression of what the experience of driving on the new layout could be like.
The creator of the simulation, known as Nukedrop, shared the clip on platform X, garnering around 695 reactions and more than 41,000 views. The video is based on a single preview image provided by Formula 1, so it should be noted that it does not accurately represent the actual design of the circuit.
Circuit Details
The simulation was created in about “24 hours” according to Nukedrop’s YouTube description. He used satellite images to place the circuit in relation to an airport that will open its doors in 2028, and incorporated elevation data from the surrounding landscape. The video features a Ferrari car with number 44, corresponding to Lewis Hamilton’s achievements, navigating various points of the layout adjacent to a bridge.
It is worth noting that Nukedrop is a recognized creator within the Assetto Corsa community, with previous experience in creating other circuits like Pikes Peak.
Comparison with the Official Circuit
Nukedrop’s version measures 4.65 km, approximately 1.35 km shorter than the length of about 6 km communicated by official designers. The official circuit will have 17 turns and will follow a counterclockwise layout. Currently, the final configuration of the circuit to be built in Bugesera, located about 40 km south of Kigali, is unknown.
Among the features of the circuit are sections near a lake, banked curves, and a straight stretch of over 1 km that ends in a tight turn designed to facilitate overtaking. Experts claim that some sections will present gradients of 12 to 13%, promising a unique experience compared to other circuits.
Future Expectations
With the first race still far off, expected in the early 2030s, the motorsport community will continue speculating about the evolution of this project. Meanwhile, Nukedrop’s simulation in Assetto Corsa is a way to enjoy the future grand prix until it becomes a reality.
