Former F1 racer Mark Blundell has called time on his racing career after making his competitive return in 2019 in British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
Blundell surprised everyone at the start of 2019 when he announced his competitive racing return in BTCC, for his first full-season since 2000. He joined Trade Cars Price Racing, where he drove a Audi S3 saloon car, finishing 28th with just the five points.
In the Independent Drivers’ standings, Blundell was 18th with 63 points, while in the Jack Sears Trophy standings, he was eighth with 226. Overall, it was a difficult BTCC season, as Blundell has now called time on his racing career, with his full focus on MB Partners.
A statement from Blundell on his social media read as: “Time to let the cat out of the bag and sign off from my racing career. For 30 years I’ve given it my all behind the wheel, met the most amazing people and enjoyed moments I’ll never forget.
“Last year’s BTCC adventure was exactly that, I loved the challenge of getting back behind the wheel…can’t be too many grandads who have competed in the BTCC! 2020 is a huge year ahead for all the drivers at MB Partners along with the next stage in the growth of the agency.
“And who knows…I might still be found in the BTCC paddock this year one way or another. Too many people to thank along the way, but to my family and friends and partners/sponsors a massive thank you! Also a big thank you must go to all the fans whose support helped me keep my foot in when the going got tough! Cheers Mark Blundell!”
