Motopark’s Fabio Scherer and Juri Vips shared poles in Race 2 and Race 3 respectively of FIA European Formula 3 Championship at Silverstone.
With Carlin’s Sacha Fenestraz on pole for Race 1, the Frenchman couldn’t repeat his heroics in Qualifying 2 which saw Scherer take his maiden pole for Race 2 in European F3 at Silverstone with a time of 1m50.460s.
The provisional pole changed hands multiple times with HitechGP’s Enaam Ahmed setting the fastest time initially. He was cleared by Prema’s Mick Schumacher first who was then toppled by Motopark’s Vips.
The Estonian (1m50.510s) looked good until Scherer went 0.050s quicker on his teammate to snatch pole position. With barely few minutes remaining, Schumacher jumped to second with a 1m50.509s – to demote Vips to third by only 0.001s in the end.
Ahmed (1m50.537s) finished fourth from Motopark’s Jonathan Aberdein (1m50.568s) as the South African continued his fine run this weekend so far. Race 1 pole-sitter Fenestraz (1m50.623s) was sixth ahead of Prema’s Marcus Armstrong (1m50.663s).
While his teammates did well, Dan Ticktum (1m50.684s) in the Motopark car could only manage eighth, leading the two Prema cars of Guanyu Zhou (1m50.708s) and Robert Shwartzman (1m50.752s) in the Top 10.
It was another tight session with the Top 20 drivers finishing within a second of pole-sitter’s time, but the front-runners like Prema’s Ralf Aron and Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala found themselves in a difficult place in 13th and 18th respectively.
Position 11-24: Alex Palou, Ben Hingeley, Aron, Sebastian Fernandez, Marino Sato, Ferdinand Habsburg, Nikita Troitskiy, Daruvala, Petrov, Charles Leong, Sophia Floersch, Keyvan Andres, Ameya Vaidyanathan and Petru Florescu.

Taking the second-best time of the session, Vips (1m50.543s) finished on pole for Race 3 on Sunday from teammate Aberdein (1m50.656s), while Fenestraz (1m50.671) ended up third from Schumacher (1m50.686s) and Armstrong (1m50.733s).
Ahmed (1m50.736s) slotted in sixth with Ticktum (1m50.757s) behind him as Zhou (1m50.805s), Shwartzman (1m50.806s) and Palou (1m50.858s) completed the Top 10. Interestingly, Race 2 pole-sitter Scherer was only 13th in the order.
