Elia Weiss wins the F4 CEZ title with two victories at Hungaroring

The driver Elia Weiss from Jenzer Motorsport has spectacularly conquered the title of the F4 Central European Zone, with two victories during the first visit of the season to the Hungaroring circuit. However, his teammate, Teo Borenstein, frustrated his goal of achieving an 11th victory by winning the final race of the weekend.

Jenzer Motorsport has completed an almost perfect season, also adding the Rookie title thanks to Markas Silkunas and the Women’s Trophy with Ella Hakkinen, along with the driver and team titles.

Weiss secured the title on his first opportunity, dominating the challenging conditions of the opening race. He started from pole and achieved victory, while Borenstein, who is his main rival, finished third, behind his teammate Silkunas. The race started with a safety car under light rain, with most drivers opting for slick tires. Ginevra Panzeri tried to gamble on rain tires, taking the initial lead, but was quickly overtaken by Weiss, who finished the race with a clear superiority.

Max Karhan, another title contender, was immediately out of contention due to a puncture in an accident with Simon Rechenmacher before his first lap.

Georgiy Zasov took advantage of Weiss’s absence in the second race to take the victory, fending off Borenstein’s attack until the end of the race.

In the third race, Weiss dominated again, leading from the start, while Zasov inherited second place after Silkunas received a 10-second penalty for jumping the start.

Borenstein managed to redeem himself in the final race, taking advantage of a restart under safety car to overtake Weiss in corners 2 and 3. He maintained the lead until the end, despite the race being halted due to an accident involving Benett Gaspar.

Zasov finished third at the finish line after an intense battle with Rechenmacher, but was subsequently penalized for exceeding track limits, which allowed Archie Owen from Hitech to move up to fourth place in his F4 CEZ debut.

Weiss commented on his triumph: “It will take some time for all this to really sink in. It has been an incredible season for me and for the whole team. We have improved race after race, and everyone has worked incredibly hard. We knew we had the potential to be competitive here, although I wasn’t completely relaxed. Fortunately, we achieved great starts in all the races except the final, where I made a small mistake that cost me the victory. It’s an amazing feeling.”
