The F1 Eifel GP started off on a bad note as the weather conditions did not allow for any running during the whole of the session.
As was expected with the predicted weather conditions at Nurburging for F1 Eifel GP FP1 session, it pretty much rained for whole of the session with no running as the medical helicopter couldn’t take off for the action to begin safely.
The FIA delayed the start of the session by 30 minutes initially but it was further extended as the time continued to tick-tock. Even with lack of support events for the weekend – with just Legends Trophy and Clio Cup – the timings of sessions wasn’t to be changed.
They eventually had to cancel the session as the note from the FIA came about the pitlane not to be opened for the rest of the F1 Eifel GP FP1 session. It was, therefore, the end of any chance of a track run as the drivers started to leave their garages.
While it was tough for the regulars but it was much more sad for F2 front-runners Callum Ilott and Mick Schumacher, who were to make their FP1 debut with Haas and Alfa Romeo Racing, respectively. They now have to wait for another chance to do so.
The weather is likely not going to change for the rest of the day and also the weekend ahead. The grand prix could turn out to be a lottery even if there is a chance of track run as the cold temperatures could create problems for many.
For now, the fans in the stands and also at homes, will hope for some track run in FP2, where all of the 20 regular drivers will be in action. Considering the limited number of wet weather tyres available, it may still be less running even if there is drizzle.
