Max Verstappen fastest in a wet FP3 session in F1 Dutch GP from George Russell, with Sergio Perez in third.
The rain made FP3 tricky for drivers in F1 Dutch GP with intermediate and wet compounds being the choice for everyone on the grid. AlphaTauri’s Liam Lawson started his journey to replace the injured Daniel Ricciardo in the #40 numbered car.
There were multiple red flags with Haas’ Kevin Magnussen the first to cause it after a spin at Turn 3. It was followed by Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu when he spun and beached himself at Turn 13, with the last one caused by Lawson after his spin at Turn 14.
He tapped the barrier but managed to continue on and pit. Outside that, Turn 1 caught out multiple drivers like Ferrari pair of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, with the Frenchman touching the barrier.
There were few other moments in the slippery conditions which included the Red Bull pair of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. The Dutchman eventually headed the FP3 standings in F1 Dutch GP with a 1m21.631s lap from Mercedes’ George Russell.
Perez was third from Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso after his late lap along with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in fifth from Williams’ Alexander Albon. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was seventh from Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas and Ferrari’s Leclerc only ninth.
He had his third Turn 1 moment right at the end of the session, as McLaren’s Lando Norris rounded out the Top 10. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly ended up 11th from the other Ferrari of Sainz, with AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda in 13th from Williams’ Logan Sargeant.
Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg finished 15th from Alpine’s Ocon, with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll only 17th from F1 debutant Lawson among the 18 who did the full session. Guanyu set a time in 19th but Magnussen did not manage to set one.
