Pierre Gasly (FRA) Alpine F1 Team A524. Formula 1 World Championship, Rd 15, Dutch Grand Prix, Friday 23rd August 2024. Zandvoort, Netherlands.

Pierre Gasly ended up fastest in wet FP3 of F1 Dutch GP from Kevin Magnussen and Valtteri Bottas, with the session hampered by Logan Sargeant’s crash.

The rain was back for FP3 in F1 Dutch GP at Zandvoort. It took them some time to get going but Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz were the first to get out. But the German did not enjoy the conditions after another off – his fifth of the weekend.

He damaged the front wing and had to limp back to the pits, for which he has been booked for driving in unsafe conditions. The first part collected Mercedes’ George Russell, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen too.

They did not enjoy the conditions as much, with the big one coming for Williams’ Logan Sargeant. He had a moment on the grass at the exit of Turn 3 and swayed onto the barrier, causing a huge damage to the barrier and also the car.

The rear was broken with fire and a wheel flew off as Piastri was the first to arrive to the scene. Sargeant was shaken up and rushed out of the car as repair work kick-started which took a whole chunk of time, with only about two minutes of running that followed.

It was frantic work where Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was pinged for crossing the pitlane white line when he was overtaking cars to get out soon. He was shown a black and white flag for that, as others jostled to get a fast lap in.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly ended up fastest in FP3 of F1 Dutch GP with a 1m20.311s lap ahead of Haas’ Kevin Magnussen and Kick Sauber’s Valtteri Bottas, with McLaren’s Lando Norris fourth ahead of Alonso in the Top 5 positions where the Top 4 improved.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was sixth from Piastri, with Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll in eighth, Hulkenberg ninth and Sainz rounding the Top 10. Just outside was Kick Sauber’s Zhou Guanyu in 11th from Sargeant, who managed to retain his quick lap.

Russell was 13th from Williams’ Alexander Albon, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Verstappen and Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo in the Top 18 who set a time, where Yuki Tsunoda and Sergio Perez had no time on board.
